How to make your first Website.

It’s been one of my goals in 2024 to create a personal website, where I can showcase my works, blogs, and podcasts. Finally, on the 14th of March 2024, it is live!

About page

How did it start?

One of the reasons why I wanted to create my website for this year is basically because the number of people I met in 2023 was a lot, and somehow I wanted to centralize all the things I’ve done this couple of years.

Whether it’s my podcast or my recent works, I feel like I want to showcase them in one platform where people would understand me quite well.

Seeing most of my friend have their website seems way more professional than just giving them my CV, and at this moment I realize I think it’s the perfect timing when it comes to creating one.

Now, I wanted to share with you guys how I did it.

First — Understand the structure of a website.

From what I know, (I was an ex-UI/UX Designer) I learned that a component of a website has 3 main parts when it comes to making it a reality; The Design, The Front-End, and The Back-End.

At this point, I still remember some of the lessons I was taught back then, and honestly, I need help from someone who would teach me more about website development, and no one is better at that role than my dear friend Citra Fauzan Alqodri or Cipau.

Cipau told me a lot about what to do in terms of design and structure. He helped me with the Front-End and Back-End parts. Actually, he is the one who did it. Thanks Bro.

Second— Write your goals.

Making a website is basically every creator’s dream, but then the thing is I don’t want people just to see the visual aesthetics of it on its own. I want people to visit and get something. Therefore I wrote down several goals the people to achieve while visiting my website.

Goals of The Website.

Third— Design.

Since I have a little background in design I decided to sketch on my own how my website would look like.

Sketch

Besides sketching the wireframe. I also hovered around the Internet about other Storyteller’s websites. Somehow I decided to create something simple and direct. While focusing on a minimalist look and also optimizing the use of each division.

At first, I decided to use a dynamic website. Where I can update all the content on my own, but Cipau told me that it’s a bit more complicated because we are trying to launch it as soon as possible. So I decided to go with the Static one. Which is way easier and cheaper in terms of the hosting fee.

So in the designing part, I used Figma. A free designing tool that is meant for website designing and it is also very useful when it comes to collaboration. Especially when it comes to detail design. Figma helped the way.

Fourth — Development

In this part, I believe it is all Cipau’s part. I was just being that dude who's like, “I think it’s better to use smaller fonts” and stuff like that. I was a bit too noisy honestly with Cipau, but hey! We enjoyed every part of it. He was very communicative in terms of what and always gave me great feedback on what would work and what not because it’s a bit tricky when it comes to showcasing works from other websites. So we decided to just embed the sites that have my works in them and form them on the website.

Blog — Medium
Projects — Behance
Podcast — Spotify
Cv & Portfolio — Google Drive

What did I learn?

Honestly, I know it’s very stressful when it comes to selling service, especially when it comes to clients who don’t really understand the development of it. This was my first time being that and I realize that it is tough work. Communication is something that we both need to understand when it comes to selling our service. As a service provider and consultant, it is our responsibility to align the needs and capabilities of both sides. and bro it’s tricky!

Anyway, come and visit! Tell me what’s your thoughts on this!
